Now is the time to rally for Coyote Valley!

Goal: We must demonstrate to the San Jose City Council that there is broad public support for the protection of Coyote Valley. 150 attendees are needed so please join us!
When: January 22, Tuesday, 12:30 pm
Where: outside San Jose City Hall
Why: The San Jose City Council is bringing the future of Coyote Valley to a special study session, January 22, 1:30 – 4:30 pm. As much as $50 million has been allocated for the protection and restoration of Coyote Valley thanks to the passage of Measure T in the November 2018 election; we want to see the full $50 million used for that purpose! Let’s demonstrate to the City Council that there is widespread community support for this irreplaceable resource.
Food, beverages, and signage will be provided.
We will rally outside of City Hall and walk into council chambers, with our Protect Coyote Valley signs. Press will be invited to the event.
Bring an umbrella if there is a light rain; downpour cancels the rally.

There have been thirty-three epochs so far, and scientists today are deciding whether or not to declare another—the Anthropocene. An epoch is defined by geological change, a shift in the Earth’s system. Anthropocene is the proposed new epoch, uniquely different from all other epochs—it’s caused by humans.
The movie “Anthropocene” definitely raises questions worth considering, and I highly recommend checking it out and thinking for yourself how valuable the lessons of the film are.

Island Hopping in Channel Islands National Park

Join us for a 3-day, 3-island, live-aboard tour of the enchanting Channel Islands. Hike wild, windswept trails bordered with blazing wildflowers. Kayak rugged coastlines, Marvel at pristine waters teeming with frolicking seals and sea lions. Train your binoculars on unusual sea and land birds—and an occasional whale. Watch for the endangered island fox. Look for reminders of the Chumash people who lived on these islands for thousands of years. Or, just relax at sea. This cruise departs from Santa Barbara. The cost, $730, includes an assigned bunk and all meals, snacks, and beverages. Kayaking will be overseen by our concessionaire; all hikes will be on trails, class 1 terrain. This trip is a fundraiser to support the Sierra Club political program in California. 2. Volunteer by joining one our local conservation teams, or political action teams, or environmental education teams, or outings teams.
3. Volunteer as an Environmental Writer/Reporter
Commitment is 5 - 10 hours per week.
The Loma Prieta Chapter has done and is doing an incredible amount of conservation work, but while our conservation activist are busy doing the work, we need reporters to write about it. If you are interested in this impactful opportunity to investigate and explain local conservation, write to chapter.director@lomaprieta.sierraclub.org.
4. Volunteer as a Social Media Coordinator
You don't need to be an expert. You'll be provided all content and only need to post on a regular basis. Commitment is 2-3 hrs per week.
