The Vermont Sierra Club has been actively working to make biking accessible and safe for all Vermonters.
This week, the Chapter hosted a group ride on the world-famous Burlington Bike Path/Island Line Trail. The ride was led by Vermont Outings Leader Carolyn Grodinsky and Chapter Director Robb Kidd. The 10-plus mile ride ended at the Lake Champlain Causeway "cut" in which riders can take Local Motion's Bike Ferry to continue the ride on the Lake Champlain Islands.
The Burlington Bikeway/Island Line is a great example of what happens when a small group of committed citizens works together to create a vision. This great book by Rick Sharp tells the story of how the Burlington Bike Path was created and helped build the movement in creating more bike paths.
The Vermont Sierra Club has been working to develop a bike corridor along the U.S. Route 5 and the Connecticut River, referred to in advocacy as part of the Connecticut River Valley Trail network. This initiative aims to connect communities from the Massachusetts border all the way up to Canada!
