Kansas Chapter

We educate, advocate, and litigate to protect the environment.

The Sierra Club was chartered in California in 1892, as a hiking and social outdoors group. Today it is the oldest and most influential grassroots environmental organization in the nation. The Kansas Sierra Club, formed in 1975 , is one of 64 mostly state-based chapters of the national Sierra Club. 

All chapters share the same mission statement:

• To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth;
• To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources;
• To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and
• To use all lawful means to carry out these objectives.

The Kansas Chapter spans the urban and suburban areas surrounding Kansas City and Wichita in the eastern part of the state, through the Flint Hills region of central Kansas, and across the High Plains of western Kansas.
