Joe authored many environmental laws during his Senate and Assembly terms, including The California Clean Coast Act, The Sustainable Oceans Act, The Delta Reform Act, and the state’s 33% by 2020 renewable portfolio standard.

He also served as Chair of the Senate Environmental Quality Committee and routinely earned a 100% score from the California League of Conservation Voters.

Guest Speaker

Sally Lieber is a community leader and nonprofit advocate, working for economic and environmental justice, and environmental preservation and restoration.

She served as Mayor and Councilwoman in the City of Mountain View and three terms in the California State Assembly. In the Assembly, she represented Silicon Valley's 22nd Assembly District and as Speaker pro Tempore, only the third woman to hold this leadership position since 1849.

In the Assembly, Sally authored key legislation to fight climate change, scale back auto emissions and reduce the use of toxic chemicals. She also successfully raised the State’s minimum wage, authored the State’s first law to combat human trafficking, prevent wage theft and protect and empower people with disabilities.

She now heads a nonprofit organization responding to the needs of women in poverty, including women that are homeless and women refugees and their families. She also serves as an advisor to the San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority, an agency that was created through her legislation.

Sally Lieber has served on the board of the Sierra Club California and has been a long-time member of the Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter.
