Attend our Annual MD Sierra Club Lobby Night! Monday February 25

Make plans now to attend our annual Lobby Night in Annapolis, on Monday evening, February 25th! Join with hundreds of other Sierra Club volunteers to speak directly with your legislators about the Sierra Club’s bold legislative agenda for the 2019 General Assembly session.  Please register here.

Contact legislators to support a strong Clean Energy Jobs Act

Maryland has an opportunity with the Clean Energy Jobs Act to increase the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) to 50% by 2030, with a plan for 100% clean energy by 2040. The incineration lobby is fighting tooth and nail to keep subsidies for trash burning in the RPS. Contact your legislators here. If you want to volunteer to help get members in critical districts to contact their legislators, contact Matt Dernoga at matt.dernoga@mdsierra.org

Tell your Legislators to Protect Maryland from Fracked Gas Pipelines

Even though Maryland banned fracking in 2017, the state is still facing expansion of fracked gas infrastructure in Maryland.  New fracked gas pipelines pose significant risks to our state’s water resources, threaten communities and our climate. Send your legislators a message telling them to support legislation to protect Maryland from fracked gas pipelines!

Protect Our Air And Climate From Expanded, Polluting Highways

Maryland must embark on creating a 21st century, climate-friendly, clean transportation sector; the Governor's expensive proposal to widen the Capital Beltway, I-270, and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway is antithetical to doing this. Write your legislators in support of this priority bill!

Toxic Tire Waste on Children’s Playgrounds

Protect children and the environment from plastic pollution from synthetic "synturf " fields and playgrounds.

And the Winner is...

Congratulations to our fellow Wyoming Chapter which placed number 1 in the Sierra Club Monthly Donor Competition, increasing their monthly donors by an incredible 3.4% of their entire membership in just two weeks!  Honorable mention and kudos go to the North Dakota and DC Chapters.

Our Maryland Chapter signed up 26 new monthly donors.  In all, an impressive 643 members committed to supporting their local Sierra Chapters with monthly sustaining donations.  Well done!

The competition may be over but it’s NOT too late to become a sustaining donor.

Thank you everyone!

Ban Single-Use Foam Food Containers Statewide

Write to your legislators and encourage them to ban foam food containers in Maryland! These containers are a major part of the worsening plastic pollution harming our streams and oceans, and are easily replaced by environmentally-friendly substitutes.
