Charles Station Compressor Station
It is thought that this project is part of boosting transmission service to the Dominion Cove Point LNG facility. Dominion said that they will not build at the Charles Station site but are actively looking for a new location and are obligated by legal agreement to inform the public when they choose a new site.
Eastern Panhandle Expansion Project
Fracked gas from Pennsylvania would be transmitted through Maryland, under the Potomac River and C & O Canal for distribution in West Virginia. The only known destination for the gas is the Rockwool Plant under construction in Ranson, WV where insulation would be manufactured. The proposed facility is directly upwind of Frederick, MD. The Federal Regulatory Commission has approved the Eastern Panhandle Expansion Project through Maryland.
- Opposition to the fracked gas pipeline and to Rockwool:
- The National Park Service has not approved a right of way for the pipeline to go under the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park near Hancock. Petitions were delivered in opposition.
- FERC approval of Maryland portion of pipeline.
