May 2017 Chapter E-Newsletter

Maryland Chapter

We had a monumental victory in May on offshore wind with the Public Service Commission approving financing for TWO offshore wind projects. We've been working for over 5 years to get offshore wind in Maryland and this was a huge hurdle that we just cleared. Read more about the victory here!

Stop fracked gas pipeline through Maryland

Please take one minute right now to tell Governor Larry Hogan to reject the Eastern Panhandle Pipeline Expansion!

A proposed pipeline project would run fracked gas from West Virginia to Pennsylvania by going through Maryland. The pipeline would enter Maryland northwest of Hancock and go under the Potomac River and the C&O Canal before terminating in West Virginia.

  Take Action
This poses a threat to the drinking water of Maryland.

Please take one minute right now to tell Governor Larry Hogan to reject the Eastern Panhandle Pipeline Expansion!

Welcome new Prince George's Group Hike Leader Janet Gingold

Email Janet Gingold

Janet has experience as science teacher and a scout leader and is interested in outdoor education and steam clean-ups. Janet recently attended the early February Outings Leader Training, and completed her first aid training,

Janet planned and held her first outing in May with Prince George's Outings Chair Lauren Ragsac as her mentor.  The 2 mile walk through the glorious trees in Watkins Regional Park was a pleasure for all in attendance who shared observations about the biodiversity of the mature forest and interactions between the forest's living things.

Contact Janet to get outdoors with the Sierra Club Outings Program in Prince George's County or come to the walk on June 11th before the annual picnic.

But Deer Tick season is at its worst until about mid-July and can put quite the damper on outdoor activities. To avoid the risk of contracting Lyme disease we recommend you hike in areas with good deer management.

Read our recent blog and our  tick and lyme disease page to plan safe outdoor trips this summer.  Here are some resources about what you need to be safe and how to be a good steward of the outdoors.
