The Maryland Sierra Club is pleased to announce the call for applications as part of the Maryland Growing for Change 2023 Small Grant Program. The Small Grant Program will award grants for up to $1,000 each to support Maryland-based programs/projects that complement Sierra Club’s mission and focus on advancing our equity and conservation goals.
We are particularly interested in initiatives and projects that: address environmental and economic justice in marginalized and underrepresented communities; remove language barriers and barriers for persons with disabilities; provide transportation for environmental events and outings; and move the public to action in areas where the Maryland Chapter does not have active campaigns.
We welcome applications within the Maryland Sierra Club (including Groups, Issue Teams, etc.) and organizations and individuals outside the Sierra Club that hold activities within the State of Maryland. We encourage those who have previously submitted grant applications that have not previously received a grant award to submit revised or new grant applications that detail with specificity how their proposed project or event meets the grant criteria specified in the grant application.
Some examples of previous projects that were awarded small grants include: environmental equity and justice listening tours; outdoor education programs partnering with Title 1 schools; print materials supporting inclusive outreach on environmental issues; garden plantings and tree plantings in communities facing food insecurity and lack of tree cover; and film screenings and video projects on environmental justice issues.
Applicants interested in this opportunity should apply on or before May 22nd to be considered for limited available funding. We anticipate awarding the grants commencing in June.
