Dear Friend,

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports we have 12 years left to avoid the worst effects of global warming. Every one of us is needed to turn the tide! You can make a difference right here in Maryland.  Volunteer at the polls. Talk with a friend. Hand out  Green Ballots and flyers at Halloween parties. Get outdoors and gather your strength communing with nature. Our one and only planet needs you!

There are just 11 days until Election Day. How are you helping to elect green Champions in Maryland?

Help get out the Green Vote!

Election day is right around the corner, just a week and a half away!  Early voting has already started and runs until  Thursday, November 1st.  See your local Sierra Club endorsed candidates here

We need your help to hand out green ballots at the polls during early voting or on election day. These ballots make a huge difference in last minute decisions at the polls and are critical to success in close races.

Tell Butler's Orchard to Protect Children's Brains, NOT the Dangerous Pesticide Chlorpyrifos!

Tell Butler's Orchard To Protect Children's Brains, NOT The Dangerous Pesticide Chlorpyrifos!

In 2018, Butler's Orchard worked to kill the bill before MD lawmakers to ban use of chlorpyrifos that would have protected Marylanders from this dangerous pesticide.

Please help protect public health - email Butler's Orchard and tell them to stop protecting chlorpyrifos - and protect Maryland's children.

Maryland Needs 100% Clean Energy!

The crisis of our warming and changing climate, with its severe and worsening damage to the environment, demands forceful, ambitious action.

Maryland must commit to moving to 100% clean renewable electricity as quickly as possible, with support for our communities and workforce as they seek to adapt to significant climate disruption and take advantage of the clean energy economy.

Help Us Stop the Dumping of Toxic Chemicals into the Potomac

Two months ago, the state announced it would be imposing tough restrictions on toxic chemical discharges into the Potomac and Patuxent Rivers from three coal plants.   Sierra Club MD led the campaign to encourage the state to issue the stricter water pollution controls.

Unfortunately, the owner of the Dickerson Coal Plant is now appealing the new restrictions.  In order to fight the coal plant owner's appeal, we need Sierra Club members who now use and enjoy the Potomac downstream from the plant to contact brian.ditzler@mdsierra.org.

MD Interns React to the IPCC Report on Climate Change

Global Warming of 1.5 C IPPC report 10.2018

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate (IPCC) Change released its report highlighting the impacts of global warming on natural and human systems, offers mitigation options, and calls for an increased global response to this growing threat.

We decided to ask our interns to respond to this report because their generation is going to be the most affected by this dangerous global warming and will face the majority of the impacts of climate change.  Read our Interns responses here.

Victory! Dominion Will Not Build Proposed Compressor Station at Site in Charles County MD

Join AMP Creeks Council and the Southern Maryland Community to celebrate a victory in a two-year fight against Dominion Energy Cove Point's efforts to build a  giant fracked gas compressor station on 14 clear cut acres surrounded by fragile wetlands that often flood in the Accokeek/Bryans Road area.

Sierra Club is proud to have supported this effort over the past several years and we're committed to continuing this fight with these great partners (when/ if) Dominion targets another location.

Contact Deirdre Lally for more info.   Read more here.
