WHAT IS INCLUDED ON THIS PAGE
This page lists (nearly 200) passages (i.e., deaths) of members as well as a limited number of others well known to members. The page was created 11/4/23 with a few additions during 2024, then expanded 8/17/2025 to include information in all past Echos from 1957 through 2025v69#3.)
Leader ratings (preceded by --%) were first granted in the early 1970s. Those who led outings only during the 1950s-60s likely never received a rating. Active leaders in the early 1970s were grandfathered to ratings between 1971 and the mid-1970s. Most later leaders obtained ratings after completing LTP. A few completed the alternate LITP (late 1980s) or were granted ratings by the chapter Safety Committee after transfer from other Club chapters. Ratings received after 2007 were not readily available and are probably not included.
Source of the information (at end of line) is preceded by ---$: (...or refer to the indicated Echo issue). A death included in the Alphabetical Sort with "not in SPS Echo" indicates a climber well known to a number of our members but with report not located in the Echo. Deaths of members more active in the DPS or in the HPS may have been reported in their newsletters.
