Sea Level Rise Webinar: Why We Need Nature-Based Adaptation

Why we need nature-based adaptation

Urgent action is needed as sea level rise endangers the Bay's fragile ecology and threatens critical infrastructure, industry, and housing, with disproportionate impacts on the region’s low-income residents and communities of color.

Yet recent studies confirm that traditional “armored” shorelines such as levees and concrete bulkheads offer less long-term protection than people might think. Now, more scientists, policy makers, and funding agencies have come to understand that “living shorelines” are a vital and necessary piece to the shoreline protection puzzle.

This webinar series digs into the whys and hows behind nature-based adaptation strategies and highlights opportunities for legislators, planners, and the public to advance ecological resilience and environmental justice in their own communities.
